Ms. Jesusita Pena - Early Childhood Coordinator

jesusita.pena@gcclr.org

The Gulf Coast Council of La Raza's Dr. ML Garza Gonzalez Charter School has always had in its long range plan to have an early childhood program. When the plans for the new building was conceived, two large rooms were built especially for that purpose. Our dream did not begin until the school year of 2004 when we had a total of 5 kindergarten students. Two of those students graduated and forever have a place in our history. The following year we began a prekindergarten program as well. These programs have grown so much that we now have 5 classrooms in the main building and 2 additional classrooms at our other campus at 721 Omaha.

These programs are in accordance with TEA standards and the curriculum that we follow is based on TEA recommended guidelines.

Most 3 to 4 year olds are eligible to attend the school (see FAQ for more information). Parents are advised that they understand that this is not a daycare facility, nor is it a headstart. If a parent should enroll their child into a TEA approved prekindergarten or kindergarten program, they now become a student in the state of Texas and must comply with the compulsory attendance laws. Failure to comply with this directive will result in court proceedings for non-compliance. (For more information and questions about qualifications, registration, or current openings see FAQ.
